In 'The Pure Hell of St Trinians', there is a scene where Eric Barker dances to a piece of music waving a flower about, and at the end of the movie, everybody is dancing to the same piece of music and sniffing flowers. What is this piece of music, and who composed it?

The composer was Malcolm Arnold, but I don't know if the pieces have separate titles.

Is mainstream music loosing its touch or has it always sucked?

I just noticed that most mainstream music is mediocre and founded by people that are already rich there by creating a system of rank within the music industry that only lets the rich get richer is this true? I mostly support Hardcore punk because to me

its the only real music left. I hate fall out boy I hate panic at the disco I hate with all my heart any form of mainstream rap music just want to hear your opinions thanks.

Every genre of music has its big-money, corporate dark side. There are a handful of "punk" labels that are a big industry, and of course some bands calling themselves punk will strike deals with a major label. The obvious effects that has on the music is uninspired songwriting (remember when Blink 182 made that TV show about recording one of their newer albums? They spent like 8 months in the studio and most of the time they were just twiddling their thumbs, trying to pump a dry well because that's what their contract stipulated), ridiculous over-production (give a producer a million dollar salary and he'll polish that turd of an album for you), and viral ad campaigning.

ITS A GOOD THING THAT MAINSTREAM SUCKS BECAUSE MORE PEOPLE TURN TO UNDERGROUND(INDIE) MUSIC.
It does seem that mainstream music has stopped trying. It seems almost that the 'hits' are selected by a committee and not the fans that are out there. Or maybe all music sucks and people don't understand that they don't have to buy something if they don't like it.
Mainstream was cool back in the early 90's with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. But nowadays it sucks. Nickelback is by far my least favorite band right now. Every one of their songs sounds the same to me. As far as punk rock goes, the only mainstream band I like is Sum41. Long live classic punk bands like NOFX, Dropkick Murphey, Misfits, Ramones, etc.

I am amazed at how music seems to facilitate learning. In our preschool, we have just found the music of Cathy Bollinger and Rivanna Music.

She has a cd, Alphabet Jam that has a book with it. All of the letters and each has its own song. There is a vowel song and a "y" at the end sounds... song.

Has anyone else used this or her social skills cds Ready to Learn or My Turn Your Turn?

I haven't but am curious about it from your post. One cd/dvd that has been wonderful for my daughter is They Might Be Giants': Here Come The ABC's. She has really took to the songs about the alphabet, I love the music, and the dvd really entertains her. I definitely recommend the TMBG cd as a compliment to your alphabet cd collection!

The copyright has not expired, so it is "piracy," yet the LPs have never been turned into CDs and the availability of such music through second-hand sellers is zero.

What to do? Release it to the Internet so more people can get to know that music, and those who like it can obtain it, also preserving it from 'extinction'?

Or should the copyright be respected, even if it means the music will be forgotten?

i want to use music in my swimming lessons, cuz i always wished that there was music during my endurance swims so y not? But i need to use apropriate music, so can anyone help me? its for the LSS swimming system so swimmer 4-6 and the JR. lifeguard levels, so about 12-14 mayb 15 thanks

Get Jock jams volume 1- what ever its great for that! If your more of a long distance swimmer try some montage music like eye of the tiger or Chariots of Fire theme song. You know the one that goes doo doo doo do dooo doo doo dah doo doo doo de dooo do doo doo (crashing cymbols) duh deee yap da doo! Dee dee dee dee ya ta dah tadah dee dee ya ta dee da doo dee dee dee ya ta dah tadah de yippity boom! And then it repeats.

"Living for Music" Perhaps in a different sense?

I always notice how there are so many musicians who say they live for music, would die without music, thier whole life is music, etc.

Through a series of self-discovery and the like, I came to find that I think I am the same way. But I'm not sure if I think of it the same way others do. Playing instruments and making music is literally the only thing keeping me alive right now. If it wasn't for the fact that I could become more amazing at playing instruments than I already am, I would have offed myself by now.

I'm really not sure what to think of this. Before you ask, I see psychologists, I am on meds, I am nihilist, and I have quite a few friends (17, in high school).

But, what exactly does this mean for me? Is it good or bad that my focus of living is solely for playing instruments? Don't just yell "ZOMG GET HELP" I just need some serious feedback.

I think that music and other forms of art can be really important to some people, and I understand that it is a really wonderful way to express yourself, but your life has so much more meaning than that. You have more things in your life than just music, and music may lead you to those things.

I don't know your religious views, or even why exactly you put this in R%26amp;S section, but I really hope that god can lead you to do the right thing and keep on doing what your heart tells you. Try and find more things in your life and stick with what calms your mind and heart. I hope only the best for your future. God bless.

If that is what keeps you going, then do it. We all have our motivations in this life. Otherwise, what would be the point?

In time, you may find other things, but don't rush yourself. You are 17, take this time to do the things you enjoy. A few years down the road you may not have as much time.

Enjoy it while you can. Don't worry about it so much.
